In recent years we have seen an increased demand for commercial patio tables with an umbrella hole. Such tables are usually used together with 4 or more chairs as a lounge or dining furniture set. They can be seen in beach resorts, outdoor cafes and restaurants.
Such a design has a few merits. The best thing about having an umbrella hole in the center is that the umbrella can provide equal shade for all the users. The umbrella does not have to be very big. Moreover, the table itself holds the patio umbrella in place and so keeps the umbrella from leaning or falling over. Central-hole umbrellas are easier to stabilize than cantilever ones.
